Day 11 – Reps
So today was a routine 1 again except this time I decided to mix it up a little and go for increased reps and so, less weight. I also came across more frustrations with the apps I’m using but I’ll defer that to the roundup post that I have in progress.
So reps. Now, according to the reading that I have been doing, heavy weights increase strength, medium weight / rep ratio increases size and high reps increase stamina. I think thats right. So I’ve decided that I will focus initially on stamina and hopefully movement as well as I’ve been very stiff. That is also apparently the problem with my shoulder. I see to have limited movement in the rotator cuff due to muscle stiffness. This means that every time I exercise that particular muscle group I’m working against, gravity, the weight I’m using as well as my own muscle. The reps will hopefully allow the movement to stretch things out a bit there.
So what I ended up doing was on the barbell, I used a bar only and did 3 sets of 20 reps. The last one I made to 15 before being to tired to carry on. So still a long way to go. I think the bar is 15 KG although I’m not entirely sure how to confirm that. If anyone knows how, I’d appreciate a pointer. Doesn’t seem to be anything written on it, unless I’m looking in the wrong place.
I also dropped the weight on the shoulder press down to a meagre 5 KG in the hope of pushing out 3 full sets of 10. I did manage this, although that last set nearly killed me.
I’m going to do the same with the second set today and see what happens.
On the surgery side I was expecting to hear about the date today but got radio silence instead. I’ll be chasing that up tomorrow too.
